FEATURED ARTICLE: EV Charging Is Moving Into Everyday Life: What Drivers Should Know
Electric-vehicle ownership is becoming less about planning a special charging stop and more about charging during errands drivers already make. That shift took another visible step this week when Walmart announced the opening of its 100th company-owned and operated EV fast-charging location at a Supercenter in Monument, Colorado. According to Walmart’s August 21 announcement, its charging network now reaches 100 stores across 20 states. The equipment can deliver up to 400 kilowatts and supports both CCS and NACS connectors.
WHY THIS MATTERS
For many shoppers, charging access remains a primary concern. Placing fast chargers at familiar retail locations changes the experience, allowing drivers to plug in while buying groceries or taking road trip breaks. However, charging speed varies by vehicle, temperature, and battery condition. Each EV has its own maximum capability, and charging often slows as the battery fills.
CCS AND NACS EXPLAINED
CCS has been widely used on non-Tesla vehicles, while NACS is the connector now adopted across much of North American industry. Buyers should confirm which connector comes with their vehicle and if adapters are needed, as hardware specifications continue to evolve by model year.
WHAT DRIVERS SHOULD CHECK
Before traveling, confirm station status and pricing via official apps. While public fast charging is essential for travel or apartment residents, most manufacturers recommend Level 2 home charging for routine daily use.
THE BIGGER AUTOMOTIVE TREND
Infrastructure is shifting to meet consumer demand for convenience. While the expansion is significant, buyers should still choose vehicles based on individual needs, including daily mileage and home charging access.
THE BUSAM BOTTOM LINE
Walmart reaching 100 locations signals that charging is becoming part of ordinary routines. Busam Automotive can help you compare range and charging capabilities for the specific model you choose.
Information current as of August 21, 2026. Charging availability, pricing, compatibility and performance may change. Confirm details with the charging provider and vehicle manufacturer.
